Nature is calling for balance, and your participation can make a world of difference! Goldberry Woods would like to invite you to our March Experience, a transformative experience designed to educate and inspire the community about the delicate ecology of Union Pier, Michigan. Dive into a hands-on journey where understanding meets action, and fear transforms into fascination.
Recent observations alarmingly note a rise in tick populations and a decline in quail population. These shifts not only disrupt our local ecosystem but also affect our cherished outdoor experiences. But there's hope, and it starts with awareness and education.
What's in Store for You?
- Educational Sessions: Experts in ecology and wildlife management will provide insights into the current environmental challenges and the importance of tick management.
- Quail Conservation: Participants will learn about the significance of quails in tick control and ecosystem balance, with a focus on raising and caring for these birds as a method of natural tick prevention and native restoration.
- Interactive Workshops: Attendees will participate in a tick-tube workshop, offering practical solutions for tick management in their own backyards.
- Nature Immersion Activities: The event features a walking meditation, an edge of the woods walk, and a guided tour of our quail aviary, encouraging participants to reconnect with nature and overcome the fear of outdoor activities.
- Refreshments and Networking: A trail mix bar, along with tea, coffee, and water, will be available to foster community interaction and discussion.
- Take-home Gift: Participants will also receive a spray bottle of tick repellent as a token of appreciation and a reminder of the practical skills learned during the event.

About Goldberry Woods
Julie and Eric are college sweethearts who both became engineers. They honeymooned at a B&B in Kauai, which was a working flower farm. After that experience, they continued to stay at unique inns whenever they got the chance. They also vowed that someday they would become innkeepers ourselves.
Julie spent eight years working in processed food plants (imagine a million gallons of corn syrup per day!). Soon after the birth of our first child, Julie decided to stay home and spent ten years raising our three fabulous kids. With Eric’s support, she began to build a home around the idea that homemade was best made. Inherited and found items became integrated into the family’s décor. A family garden supplied the basis of our from-scratch meals. She decided that she no longer wanted to return to a career in processed foods but that she was ready to share her hospitality, love of food, and passion for the earth with guests.
They lived in the busy Chicago suburbs but began spending every possible moment vacationing in Michigan’s Harbor Country. On a week-long family vacation in 2011, they stumbled across the old River’s Edge B&B in Union Pier, MI. The property was close to the beach with beautiful woods and enough pasture to create a biodiverse organic farm. Though they thought that there may be too many obstacles, every detail fell into place in a serendipitous fashion and Goldberry Woods opened in May 2012.
They are so in love with Harbor Country, and they can’t wait to welcome you to Goldberry Woods.
